Don Bensi

Raffaele Bensi (1896-1985) was ordained into the priesthood in 1919 and that year Cardinal Mistrangelo, archbishop of Florence, appointed him assistant parish priest of San Michelino Visdomini, a stone’s throw from the Cathedral where he remained (as parish priest from 1932) until his death. As ecclesiastic assistant (from 1930) to Catholic Youth and especially as a teacher of religion in Florentine Classic High Schools (from 1926 to 1966), don Bensi shaped generations of young Florentine Catholics as well as laymen and priests. He devoted every afternoon to hearing confessions, conversation and to spiritual guidance. La Pira entered his circle of friends right away and had Bensi as his confessor and spiritual guide all his life.
